More countries change telephone number system

Two other Latin American countries are adjusting their telephone numbers to accommodate growth.

They are PerĂº and Honduras. Costa Rican numbers went to eight digits March 20, 2008, to accommodate growth as well as the increase in the number of cell telephones.

Now Honduras reports that it will also use eight digits with 2 being inserted in front of existing land line numbers. That will happen Nov. 14.

Last Sept. 4 PerĂº instituted a system where cell numbers would be prefaced with a 9.
