Internet bad guys using death of Chávez as a hook

Spammers and others who use the Internet for foul reasons have used the death of Venezuela’s president Hugo Chávez to further their efforts.

The firm Websense said it has identified malicious emails that have in the subject line the allegation that the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency murdered Chávez. The idea is to encourage a recipient of the email to click and open an attachment.

“Malware authors are increasingly using breaking global news events as a means of propagating lures that lead to malware,” said Websense.
