Fuerza Pública officers detained two men as robbery suspects in Cartago, but the suspects will not be confused by procedures. They know the drill. They have been in court for a total of 13 times, said police.
The robbery happened in Guadalupe de Cartago. A man who runs an electronic shop said that he was confronted by two men and a gun. The bandits took jewelry valued at 6 million colons or about $12,000, police said.
The pair fled on the motorcycle on which they arrived. But a witness nearby saw them exchange the motorcycle for a car in an apparent effort to duck pursuit. A third party drove away with the motorcycle.
Acting on this information, police officers with the Grupo de Apoyo Operacional stopped a car near the municipal stadium in Tibás, north of San José.
There they encountered two men, one with the last names of Fallas Montero and one with the last names of Rodríguez Rodríguez, they said.
Police also found evidence of the robbery in the vehicle, they reported.
The security ministry said that Fallas had been detained in the past for aggravated robbery, illegally carrying a weapon, attempted aggravated robbery and other crimes for a total of five times. His associate, Rodríguez, has been in court on a murder charge, vehicle theft and aggravated robbery, said the ministry.
The ministry said that police also found three police radios and two police type rotating lights in the vehicle.
