Those books Saturday at the Plaza Real Cariari were not lost. They were liberated or sown deliberately in a worldwide program.
Book lovers were urged to collect some favorites and just leave them in a public place to pass on the joys of reading to someone else.
The Gran Liberación Mundial, organized by the Club de los Libros Perdidos, appears to be mostly an event in Latin America, and online sources show that people from México to Argentina participated during the 24 hours allocated for the event.
At Real Cariari, organizers said they had help from Libros para Todos of Grupo Nación and Librería Internacional.
Much of the organization and promotions came via the social networks.
