Diesel will increase by 12 colons a liter when new prices are published, said the nation’s regulatory agency Tuesday, The new price will be 623 a liter or about $1.25.
Both super and plus gasoline are nearly unchanged. Super will be down a colon to 738, about $1.48, and plus will be 708 ($1,42), said the Autoridad Reguladora de Servicios Públicos.
The regulating agency said that taxes went up a colon for most products, too. There is about a 30 percent tax on motor fuels. Super is taxed at 233.25 colons per liter, and plus is taxed at 222.75 colons. Diesel owners pay 131.75 colons in taxes per liter.
The monthly adjustments in the price of petroleum products is based on the world price and the exchange rate, among other factors. Costa Rica imports all its petroleum via the Refinadora Costarricense de Petróleo state monopoly.
