The rebuilding of the Interamericana Norte heads the list of priorities, said the transport ministry Wednesday.

The road building agency, the Consejo Nacional de Vialidad, said that the job is 38 percent finished in the first  stage, which consists of some eight kilometers. Eventually the widened highway will go all the way to the Nicaraguan border.

The next job is from Cañas to Bagaces, something that will be started before the first stage is completed, said the agency. Design work still is underway for intersections further north.

The road surface will be 10 inches of concrete. The current highway is two lanes, which will be increases to four.
