Noon concert today kicks off eight days of orchestra performances

The Orquesta Sinfónica Manuel María Gutiérrez, which is made up of 126 young musicians, performs today at the  Teatro al Mediodía in the Teatro Nacional. The time is 12:10 p.m.

The youngsters come from the  Sistema Nacional de Educación Musical. The performance ends the orchestra’s second season.

Works include “The Fifth Symphony” by Dmitri Shostakovich and “Huapango” by Pablo Moncayo, representing Latin American music.

The performance also is the start of the  Festival de Orquestas Unidas that runs through July 23 with 12 presentations at the  Teatro Nacional, the Teatro Popular Melico Salazar and in Liberia.

Eight orchestras with musicians of every age will participate in this series of events. A full schedule is HERE! 

Performing will be the  Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional and the  Youth Orchestra of Americas. This latter group is made up of musicians ages 18 to 30 from 25 countries in the Western Hemisphere.

Three orchestras from the Sistema Nacional de Educación Musical will perform during the festival, too, as well as the Orquesta Sinfónica Municipal de Cartago, the Orquesta Sinfónica of the Universidad de Costa Rica and the Orquesta Sinfónica del Conservatorio de Castella.

Two youth orchestras from the Sistema Naciona will perform tonight at 8 o’clock, too.
