Just in time for payday, the Ministerio de Trabajo y Seguridad Social has published a .pdf file listing the new minimum wages for the various job categories in Costa Rica. The salaries are effective for the second half of the year.
The list is under the preguntas frecuentes section of the ministry’s Web site.
The Consejo Nacional de Salarios approved a 2.4 percent increase in the minimum salaries. Many workers are paid at these rates. But the publication of the labor ministry’s salaries by categories excuses employers from doing the math.
Some salaries are by the day. These are mostly blue collar jobs. Other salaries are by the month.
The ministry also maintains a help line for questions: 800 872 22 56
Professional jobs are not covered by the minimum wage, although they may be regulated by the relevant colegio.
