U.S. Coast Guard a step closer to docking in country’s ports

U.S. Coast Guard vessels on drug patrol in the Caribbean and Pacific received initial approval Monday to dock in Costa Rica.

The legislature must approve visits by military and quasi-military boats.

There was only one vote against letting the ships visit from now to Dec. 31.

Lawmakers generally favor Coast Guard vessels over U.S. Navy ships because of their anti-war philosophies. The measure needs one more vote, probably Wednesday.
