A forum on climate vulnerability takes place in Costa Rica Sept. 19 and 20. Attending will be representatives of 20 of the most vulnerable countries.
The meetings will be held at the Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza in Turrialba.
Most of the countries are like Vanuatu, which is in danger of vanishing beneath rising seas. The presidency of the forum is now held by Bangladesh, another country that stands to loose a lot of territory to rising seas.
President Laura Chinchilla has joined with other Central American presidents to call on the developed world to make large donations to compensate for the carbon thet are putting into the atmosphere.
Although the seas have been rising for the last 10,000 years, many scientists blame human activities for this latest development. Some speculate that the seas will be two meter higher by the end of this century.
