San José tells owners to evaluate properties

The last time that owners in the San José central canton had to declare the value of their properties was in 2008. So the municipality said Tuesday that the deadline for doing so again is Sept. 12.

Municipal officials said they hoped that they would get a steady stream of paperwork to avoid a last-minute crush. The law requires what amounts to a self evaluation every five years. This is a valuation other than that required for luxury homes for that special tax.

The municipality said that the forms can be handed in at local libraries as well as the main offices.
