The robots will be in action again this weekend. The event is the fourth Olimpiada de Robótica in which students from 7 to 21 create and manipulate their own robots in competitions geared to their ages. The competition will be Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Cariari Country Club.
Banco Nacional and the Ministerio de Ciencia, Tecnología y Telecomunicaciones are sponsors with a host of other supporters.
Top winners go to Indonesia for a world event in November. Technically oriented youngsters already have signed up and have been practicing near their homes. Each will receive a kit, again determined by age and school grade. From that they will construct a robot to do assigned tasks.
Those 7 to 12 years old will have to use their robot to classified by color a number of objects, Older youngsters will send their robots into action to play a soccer game.
Students from the major universities will be using sophisticated software to complete tasks as it they were in an industrial plant.
