Costa Rica will exchange diplomats with Turkey

The country will open an embassy in Turkey within the next few months, the foreign ministry said Monday.

The announcement coincides with a visit by Enrique Castillo, the foreign minister, to Turkey. The ministry said that Castillo began his visit with a ceremony at the tomb of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey.

Turkey is expected to reciprocate by opening an embassy here.

Castillo is making foreign visits, in part, to generate support for Costa Rica’s conflict with neighboring Nicaragua.
