Today is Thursday, so Rodolfo Hernández is not a presidential candidate.
The medical doctor seems to be as uncertain and torn as Shakespeare’s Hamlet. He said again Wednesday that he was quitting the race.
Officials of the Partido Unidad Social Cristiana most likely were out seeking solace from Johnny Walker Wednesday night. The candidate quit a week ago and then issued a blistering statement citing back stabbing, traitors and all those aspects that make politics fun for reporters.
Then Friday after talking with party leaders, he said he was back in the race. By that time, most observers counted him out as a serious candidate.
The reversal prevented the party from choosing another candidate Saturday.
Polls had Hernández in second position after Johnny Araya Monge of Partido Liberación Nacionals before the first resignation.
