The economics ministry has checked the prices of tamales and children’s toys. A report is scheduled for today.
The Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Comercio also said that it would report on a study its inspectors did in conjunction with the Laboratorio Costarricense de Metrología on the accuracy of scales used in commerce.
Tamales are a traditional holiday dish steeped in tradition. Most Costa Rican women would be horrified if they thought someone in their home was eating store-purchased tamales. Each family has its own recipe.
The ministry checks the prices each holiday for the dough, meat and other ingredients. Usually they find wide differences.
