Unscheduled landing results in quick capture of aircraft

An aircraft loaded with cocaine either experienced an emergency or the pilot deliberately made an unscheduled landing in the Caribbean coast early Monday. Whatever the plans, the quick arrival of police officers resulted in the detention of the pilot and his son, both Guatemalans.

The aircraft, a Beechcraft King Air, landed on a private crop spraying strip in Pandora, Valle de la Estrella, Limón. The aircraft was en route from Colombia.

The pilot was identified by the last name of Cruz. His son has the same last name. The King Air is well known as a craft that can land and take off on short runways. The aircraft involved is a 1980 model, said the Ministerio de Gobernación, Policía y Seguridad Pública.
