Araya leads Solís in first report of Sunday voting

The first  preliminary release of vote totals by the Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones shows, as expected,  Johnny Araya of Partido Liberación Nacional in first place with 36.24 percent of the vote. In second place is Luis Guillermo Solís of the center left Partido Acción Ciudadana. He has 21.08 percent.

José María Villalta of Frente Amplio received 17.37 percent of the votes. Otto Guevara Guth of Movmiento Liberación received 12.4 percent.

The voting will go to a second round between the top two finishers if no one received 40.0 percent. In this election abstentions were more than 30 percent, said the Tribunal. The total represent only only 9 percent of the vote.
