The nation’s health provider says it has purchased 25 anesthesia machines and distributed them to 13 public hospitals.
The investment was $1.3 million, said the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social.
In all, the Caja wants to replace 120 machines, but there is a four-step plan to do so. The first 25 machines went to hospitals that have the most need. They are Max Peralta, Golfito, México, Carlos Valverde Vega, el Centro Nacional de Rehabilitación, Max Terán Valls, Fernando Escalante Pradilla, William Allen Taylor, Enrique Baltodano Briceño, Rafael Ángel Calderón Guardia, Tony Facio and San Juan de Dios, said the Caja.
The next 40 machines still are the subject of a solicitation for bids, the Caja said.
