Police officers delivered wake-up calls to residents of 38 city hotels starting at 4 a.m. Sunday. They confiscated knives, other sharp objects and even one pistol.
The Fuerza Pública officers said they were targeting those places where potential street robbers hole up. This is a typical police operation that has reduced the number of robberies on the city streets.
In all 10 persons were detained, including two in Alajuelita where they were caught in the act of robbing a pedestrian, said the security ministry. Some of the confiscated items were found on individuals who were encountered on the streets.
Police began their efforts in the center of the capital at midnight and eventually checked 1,035 persons, 90 vehicles, 25 motorcycles as well as the hotels. Some of the hotels really are long-term rooming houses that are clustered in some of the more crime-ridden parts of the city.
