Grupo Extra, the parent firm of the popular daily newspaper, says it has been the victim of an espionage attack against its reporters.
Paola Hernández, one of the top executives of the group, made the allegation in an email sent to other media outlets.
Ms. Hernández said that the action constitutes a grave violation of the rights of news people and of Costa Rican citizens.
She said the media group plans a press conference today to describe the case in details.
In today’s edition the newspaper reports that an anonymous judicial source provided editors with documents from a criminal case that said prosecutors sought out the newspaper’s information sources. There was a reference to telephone records.
