A shootout in Hatillo about 6 p.m. Saturday left three persons injured, and Fuerza Pública officers are suspected of pulling the triggers.
The Judicial Investigating Organization has confiscated the pistols of the police officers involved for testing. The agency said that there appeared to have been an altercation with the police and residents in the area while officers were conducting some form of operation.
The shootings took place in Ciudadela 25 de Julio, a low-income area in Hatillo, which is on the south side of San José.
A woman and a man were wounded in a hand while another woman, identified by the last name of Chacón was shot in the head, said judicial agents. She is in Hospital San Juan de Dios. The other two shooting victims were treated at a local clinic.
The security ministry did not comment.
Agents are relying on ballistics tests to determine who fired the shots. There was no indication that the residents were armed.
