Tonight is big band night at the Puntarenas carnival, and like other nights the evening will be highlighted by dancing in the bars and stands along the Paseo de los Turistas.
Today is the fourth day of the Puntarenas celebration that organizers call the biggest beach party in Costa Rica. Already a carnival queen has been crowned, the national beach volleyball championship has been decided and there have been a series of parades.
Ideal weather over the weekend did nothing but boost the party mood. Also this week there are live theater, concert shows and running of the bulls.
Tuesday there is a marimba ensemble at 6 p.m. with a musical group and more dancing in the local bars.
Many in the Pacific community are waiting for Thursday, the first of four days of fireworks at 10 p.m.
The big parade is Saturday at 6 p.m. It is dedicated to President Laura Chinchilla.
Jamaican reggae band Inner Circle is scheduled for a Saturday night concert. Sunday is the final day.
