Runoff April 6 officially set by election tribunal Monday

Election officials have made the runoff official. The election for president will be April 6.

The Tribunal Supremo de Elecciones officially set the rules Monday and issued a long set of rules.

The action follows a mandatory recount that did not change the fact that the candidates in the runoff will be Johnny Araya Monge of the Partido Liberación Nacional and Luis Guillermo Solís of the Partido Acción Ciudadana.

That lineup was known election night, Feb. 2, but the tribunal has to make it official. Solís finished with 30.6 percent of the popular vote and Araya got 29.8 percent.
