U.S. citizen detained at airport in three-year-old rape case

Judicial agents detained a 30-year-old U.S. citizen Tuesday as he was about to leave the country at Juan Santamaría airport.

The man is a suspect in a rape case, said the Judicial Investigating Organization. The rape is supposed to have happened in 2011 in San José, and the victim was  a 20-year-old woman, the judicial agency said.

The agency said that the man was about to leave for the United States. There was no indication if the man knew about the warrant or that he was wanted before he was detained.
