Hundreds of runners are expected to converge upon Ciudad Colón for the first ever Peace Run, Costa Rica. The University of Peace will host the event Sunday, March 2, to spread the message of peace through sport.
“This will be a great opportunity for our campus to develop a day dedicated to sport in the name of peace,” said Francisco Rojas Aravena, chancellor of the United Nations-sponsored school in a release. “Additionally we are organizing a Culture Expo with the representation of all our students from diverse nationalities.”
Participants can choose between routes of four different lengths: 42 kilometers, 21 kilometers, 10 kilometers, or a 1-kilometer run for kids under 10. Registration costs 25,000 colons for the 42-kilometer run, 20,000 colons for the 21-kilometer, 16,000 colons for the 10-kilometer, and 6,000 colons for the kids fun run. Timing will be done using electronic chips, and water stations as well as medical assistance will be set up along the route.
Those interested can pick up registration packets affiliated AMPM branches in Guachipelín, Curridabat, Cartago, and at the Heredía Universidad Nacional location. There also is a Web site: www.peaceandrun.com for more information.
