New helicopter joins roster of ministry’s air service

The security ministry’s Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea took delivery Sunday of a new McDonnell Douglas helicopter.   The seven-place craft has infrared equipment for night searches and is unique in not having a tail rotor. This is supposed to make the craft quieter.

This is the second helicopter obtained through the aid of the U.S. Embassy.

The helicopter will work in search and rescue, in humanitarian missions, anti-drug operations and even as an air ambulance, said officials.

Also Sunday the Fuerza Pública in the southern part of the country received new vehicles. They will be used in Corredores, Coto Brus and Golfito. There was the delivery of new uniforms.

Among the vehicles are nine four-wheel-drive Toyota Prado.
