Rules outlined for those who sell food at schools

Representatives of some 40 firms that hold food concessions at public schools were briefs on the rules and given a demonstration of healthy preparation.

The session at the Museo de los Niños was sponsored by Dos Pinos and featured well-known chef Doris Goldgewicht., who prepared a burrito and some other dishes.

The  Ministerio de Educación Pública has issued rules that are designed to provide better foods for school children. Food representatives came from Liceo de Alajuelita, Liceo San José, Escuela La Isla, CTP de Santa Ana, San Juan Sur, Escazú, Escuela José Martí, Liceo de Pavas, Escuela Cristóbal Coló, and from Coronado, Acosta, José María Zeledón, Vuelta de Jorco  and Fernando Volio, among others.

The ministry also says it is fighting against obesity in school children. Those who hold the food concessions at the various schools are obligated to follow the ministry’s rules.
