Pacific yields more than a thousand kilos of coke

Coast guard officers found 1,140 more kilograms of cocaine in the Pacific Ocean after four men threw packages of the drug from their boat  Tuesday to avoid being caught. At the time of the  arrest officers still found 100 kilograms aboard the Colombian boat.

Félix Villalobos, the Servicio Nacional de Guardacoastas director in Golfito, said two patrol boats found the discarded drugs early Thursday  just a few miles from Cabo Matapalo. He said officials found 57 packages, and each contain roughly 20 kilograms of cocaine.

The large shipment of confiscated drugs has been taken to Golfito and given to drug control agents. Coast guard officials said despite the already large haul they are still patrolling the area in case any more packages appear.
