The Cruz Roja is calling upon passionate bike riders to join a scenic 20-kilometer ride through the mountain paths of Naranjal de Puriscal. With the first ever Ciclista Recreativa Ambiental, the organization also known as the Red Cross, wants to make biking a more popular form of travel and also raise the level of environmental consciousness within the local area.
The tranquil ride will allow riders a perfect opportunity to enjoy a beautiful part of the country, said Freddy Roman Navarro from the Cruz Roja communications office. He also said the organization leaders don’t know how many bikers will sign up for the premier ride, but they hope over the years it can grow into an event where the community can rally around the sport and nature preservation.
“The first priorities are to promote exercise and a positive relationship with nature,” Roman said.
The ride is set for 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and will start at Restaurante Cubillon in Naranjal de Puriscal. Registration cost is 5,000 colons and includes a drink and snack.
All proceeds taken from the race will benefit the local Cruz Roja office in La Gloria de Puriscal, Roman said. He added that the profits will help with their efforts in protecting and providing services for the community.
