The Costa Rican national soccer team tied England today, 0-0, and finished at the top of its World Cup Group D.
The Sele was undefeated in three games against some of the best teams in the world.
The team is now prepared to play Sunday at 2 p.m. against the second place finisher in Group C, probably Ivory Coast, which takes on Greece later today.
The Costa Rican team already qualified to advance to the next round, and England was assured of going home. The Sele adopted a defensive strategy against England’s superb ball handling. England had eight shots on goal against four for the Costa Ricans.
Both teams were charged with 17 fouls each, and for a time at the beginning of the second half, yellow cards appeared to be raining down on both teams.
Uruguay also moved into the next round from Group D because the team defeated Italy 1-0 today.
The Costa Rican-England game was at the Estadio Mineirao in Bello Horizonte, Brazil. Celebration was subdued in San José although there were some car horns when the game ended after three minutes of extra time.
