Suspect held in Puerto Viejo robbery

A man with a knife threatened two British tourists in Puerto Viejo early Monday while the victims walked on the public roadway. The robber took money and two iPhones, the Fuerza Pública said.

Victor Bermudez Arias, police chief at Puerto Viejo in Limón, said the two women called and provided authorities with a detailed physical description of the suspect. They were walking down a public road around 2:30 a.m. when they said the man accosted them, police said.

The suspect was identified by the last names Céspedes Paisicua. Police said he was carrying a knife when officers apprehended him.

Bermudez said the suspect was transferred to the local prosecutor’s office.

Suspect is escorted to a vehicle for a trip to prosecutors.
