French to mark Bastille Day with a dance

Certain French groups will be celebrating French National Day next Monday in the Central Valley. Also known as Bastille Day, the holiday commemorates the dawn of the French Revolution in 1789.

Both the French embassy and the French Alliance of Costa Rica will begin the festivities with a ball at the Hacienda Villa Hermosa in Alajuela Saturday at 6 p.m. Press representative for the French embassy, Olga Bolaños said the dance got pushed up to the weekend because, well, who really wants to dance on a Monday night?

The band Franchutes will be playing and there will be typical French foods, like cheeses, baguettes, pastries, and grilled dishes. Admission is free for French citizens and invited guests of the embassy.

Monday morning there is an annual floral ceremony at Parque Francia in Barrio Escalante.
