Hospitality sector regrets Tambor thefts

The impact of burglaries while guests were sleeping at Hotel Barceló in Playa Tambor is reverberating through the hospitality industry.

The Cámara Costarricense de Hoteles said that it regretted the crime. Some 11 rooms were entered early Sunday morning, guests said. Electronics, wallets and purses were taken.

The industry leaders are surprised because the hotel is highly secure. The hotel chamber called on other establishments to increase their security.

The hotel chamber has a security committee that will be offering its services to investigators, it said.

Because of the security present at the hotel, which is on the Nicoya peninsula, investigators are looking at the possibility of an inside job.

The hotel has sprawling grounds encircled by a chain-link fence.

All of those who were victims of the burglaries were Costa Ricans.
