Some lawmakers want to create a fund that will help bankroll Costa Rican companies that want to do business in other countries.
Alexander Mora Delgado, the minister of Comercio Exterior, stressed this point when he appeared Thursday before the Comisión Legislativa de Relaciones Internaciones y Comercio Exterior.
His concept received support from the committee president, Epsy Campbell Barr, who said that for too long the model of investment was one way.
A number of larger Costa Rican firms have an international presence, but the discussion Thursday suggested something more than just exportation. The Central American Free Trade Treaty gives Costa Rican comapnies the right to seek jobs in other treaty nations, including the United States.
