A moderate earthquake of 4.3 to 4.7 magnitude took place at 12:48 p.m. today, Thursday.
The epicenter was 1.6 kilometers southwest of Guácimo de Alajuela and 5.3 kilometers north northwest of Ciudad Colón, said a University of Costa Rica monitor.
The Laboratorio de Ingeniería Sísmica said its sensors registered the strongest impact in Ciudad Colón and slightly less so in Grecia and Frijanes. It said the magnitude was 4.3.
The quake was felt all over the metro area. The cause is believed to be a local fault. The Observatorio Vulcanológico y Sismológico at Universithy Nacional estimated manitude at 4.7.
