New pedestrian bridge going up tonight

Highway officials are closing the roadway between Hatillo 2 and 8 Thursday from 10 p.m. tonight and 4 a.m. Thursday to install the deck of a pedestrian bridge.

The Ministerio de Obras Públicas y Transportes and the Consejo de Seguridad Vial said they hope the bridge saves lives.

The highway is called the Alajuelita radial. The bridge is 57 meters (about 187 feet), and the approaches and the abutments already are in place. The Hatillos are in the southern part of San José.

This is the site where the new bridge will be.
