Twin quakes rattle Nicoya area

The usually seismically active Nicoya peninsula has been generally quiet for the last six days. But early Sunday there was a double earthquake in the northeastern part of the Nicoya peninsula about 14 kilometers east of Nicoya Central.

A 5.1 magnitude quake took place at 5:43 a.m., followed eight minutes later by a 3.6 shaker, according to the Laboratorio de Ingeniería Sísmica at the Universidad de Costa Rica. No major damage or injuries were reported.
