Former ambassador Todman dies

Terence A. Todman, 88, once the U.S. ambassador to Costa Rica, has died and the foreign ministry here has expressed its condolences.

Todman was ambassador here in 1974. He also served as an assistant secretary of State for Latin America. Under Jimmy Carter Todman helped reach an agreement with Panam√° for turning over the canal.

He died in the Virgin Islands where he was born.
