Escazú hotel closed by tax officials

Tax authorities closed The Beacon Costa Rica Hotel & Spa Friday morning and rousted out the guests who were there.

The hotel remained closed Sunday night, but an employee said that hotel operators planned a meeting with the Ministerio de Hacienda this week.

The ministry made no mention of the action or reported on any similar closings. Such actions are not unusual when a company has fallen behind on the payment of sales taxes or, sometimes, payments to the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social.

The hotel is just a block and a half west of the Parque Central in Escazú.
