Those who seek to honor the victims of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in the United States might have second thoughts because of the location.
This morning the observance is in the training academy for firefighters in Patarrá, Desamparados. Fortunately, the Cuerpo de Bomberos has a map on its Web page HERE! The time is 10:30 a.m., said the U.S. Embassy.
This is the 13th anniversary of the multiple disasters. Fire fighters have a special relationship with the anniversary because so many died in the collapse of the World Trade towers in New York.
The academy grounds also hold the relocated monument to the victims. It had to be moved from Sabana Norte because thieves were stealing the copper from which the monument was constructed.
The U.S. Embassy said that Héctor Chaves, director of the Bomberos, would be there along with Ravi Candadai, the U.S. consul general.
The Marine Corps League will make a strong showing as will members of other military organizations as well as U.S. and Costa Rican citizens.
