Police report arrests in San Carlos sweep

The major police deployment in San Carlos has resulted in six arrests for persons sought on warrants. The Fuerza Pública put more officers in the community and setup multiple checkpoints after the municipal council complained about crimes.

Police said they confiscated three motorcycles, two vehicles and even three cows.

The report Thursday also said that police turned up one illegal firearm, marijuana and a small amount of cocaine.

Checkpoints were in Río Cuarto de Grecia, Alfaro Ruiz, Guatuso, Ciudad Quesada, the tourism center of  La Fortuna, Florencia and San Carlos.

Police said they checked nearly 1,000 persons.

At a meeting Wednesday police officials promised a series of sweeps and even said that the security ministry’s air wing, the Servicio de Vigilancia Aérea, would participate.
