San Ramón group helping students

The Community Action Alliance in San Ramón is working with Escuela Jorge Washington to raise funds for students whose economic situation does not enable them to pay normal school fees. Many of the students come from single-parent homes with difficult financial conditions, the organization said.

The school fees contribute to the school’s annual expenditures from administrative expenses to graduation costs.

There are two fundraisers in the next three months. The first is a Desayuno Tipico on Sept. 14 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the school. The cost is 3,000 colons per person, a bit less than $6. This is the first time that the school has done a fundraising breakfast. The Community Action Alliance is supporting the event by promoting ticket sales to its members.  They can be reserved by email here: For questions about the event, the public can contact Marielos Montero at 8309-5370 or 8817-1875 at Jorge Washington.

The second and larger fundraising event is scheduled for mid-November and will mark the 75th Anniversary of the school. The Community Action Alliance is co-sponsoring this family event with Jorge Washington, and will be participating in the planning, food preparation, overall promotion, and ticket sales. Funds raised at this event will benefit the school’s 5th graders, and the basketball association’s new court project. The fundraiser details will be announced at the end of September.

Community Action Alliance said it is a group of San Ramón area expats and locals volunteering together for community enrichment.
