University degree program will train engineers to make and troubleshoot medical devices

Tecnológico de Costa Rica, the Cartago-based public university, said it is starting a master’s degree program in the development of medical devices.

The program has the support of the Coalición Costarricense de Iniciativas de Desarrollo. The program will be in the university’s materials engineering school.

Costa Rica has become a leader in the production of many types of medical devices. The new program will use appropriate software to create processes for the construction of these medical devices.

The program also will focus on the analysis of shortcomings and the resolution of problems as well as research into materials, said the university.

The University of Minnesota also is a sponsor.
