The tourism ministry said that some 40 firms are offering special deals to mark World Tourism Day, which is Saturday.
There will be expositions of some of the firms at Lincoln Plaza in Moravia Saturday, said the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo.
The emphasis is toward national tourists, and the ministry said it is making use of social networks. Alejandro Castro of the institute’s marketing department said use would be made of something called Twibbon that incorporates material from Twitter and Facebook. Those who participate will be entered into a contest, the ministry said.
The exposition will run through Sunday. Some of the participants are giving discounts of as much as 50 percent.
This is the low season of a year that has not been good to tourism operators.
