5.0 quake in southern zone

An earthquake with a 5.0 magnitude took place today 23 minute after midnight about three kilometers offshore from Pavon  de Golfito, said the Laboratorio de Ingenieria Sismica at the Universidad de Costa Rica.

Residents in much of the southern zone felt the shock. Ther were no immediate reports of damage. Quakes are common in this area,. Considering the location, the cause most certainly was the result of plate tectonics.
