Halloween came a week early Friday as Gringo bars in downtown San José jumped the gun.
The Hotel and Casino Del Rey and its nearby Key Largo had announced that it would celebrate Halloween both last weekend and next. The Sportsmen’s Lodge a couple of blocks away was not to be outdone and decked its halls with scary figures.
Waitresses and bartenders at the Del Rey each spent about an hour under the care of a professional makeup artist to get that ghoulie look.
Meanwhile, at the adjacent Casino Club Colonial, the day was more like Christmas for the patrons who were winning millions of colons at a post anniversary raffle.
Halloween is a time to tap into that alter ego and dress as an extension of personality. In addition to the staff at the various Gringo bars, Patrons, usually female, push the limits on unconventional dress.
The Bar Poás also celebrated with a DJ to keep the Latin beat going.
The downtown is expected to be one big party again Friday and Saturday with similar celebrations.
