Most employers are off the hook this weekend for the Día del Encuentro de las Culturas. The holiday is on a Sunday, and it is one of the two holidays each year in which employers are not obligated to pay salaries if the employe does not work.
School children will have Monday off because they are expected to participate in cultural activities Sunday. Teachers will be checking their attendance.
U.S. Embassy workers will have Friday and Monday off in keeping with the tradition that workers there get both U.S.. and Costa Rican holidays off.
