Tortuguero plans a fiesta this weekend

Tortuguero plans a three-day festival starting Friday to mark the 40th anniversary of the adjacent Parque Nacional de Tortuguero. It is the  Festival Turtle Bogue, which carries the original name of the community.

Tortuguero is well known for the three species of sea turtles that nest on its beaches. The community is on a sliver of land between the Caribbean and the Tortuguero canal. Residents boast of not having cars or roads.

A major feature of the festival will be an aquatic parade of carnival floats. The material this year is supposed to be all recyclables.
