Dock workers in Limón are supposed to return to their jobs today

Striking Limón dock workers were supposed to return to their jobs today after an agreement was struck during negotiations mediated by Monserrat Solano Carboni, the defensora de los habitantes.

The union rapidly was losing support, and even the Frente Amplio political party had called for workers to return to the job.

Government officials met with representatives of striking dock workers Wednesday.

The strike already has been declared illegal by a labor court. The government is declining to negotiate a key clause in a contract for a new $1 billion container facility that is the main reason for the strike.
Union leaders were dealing with an increasingly anxious rank-and-file that had missed a payday.
