Tourism sector irked again at being overlooked in development plan

The tourism sector again says it feels it is being shortchanged by the Solís administration.

The sector, as represented by the Cámera Nacional de Turismo, said that there was little about the industry in the national development plan outlined by President Luis Guillermo Solís last week.

The chamber called on the president to put into practice the suggestions that the Congreso Nacional de Turismo developed.

If the national plan is the map of the route that will mark the vision of goals, objectives, indicators and resources, then the tourism sector should occupy a relevant space in the policies being promoted by the state, said the chamber.

Last month the tourism industry was irked because an outline of government responsibilities put the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo subordinate to the economics ministry.

The chamber and others complained, and that arrangement was reverted to what had existed in the past.
